Roughly 11,000 Houses Will Sell Today
Some homeowners have been waiting for months to put their home on the market because they don’t think people are buying homes right now. If that’s you, know that even though the housing market has slowed compared to the frenzy of a couple of years ago, it isn’t at a standstill. Even in Southwest Florida, in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian last year, properties are selling every day.
11,000 Homes Will Sell in the U.S. Today
According to the National Association of Realtors (NAR), based on the pace of sales right now, just over 4 million homes will sell this year. With some simple math, let’s break down how that looks per day:
- 4.16 million homes divided by 365 days in a year = 11,397 houses sell each day
- 11,397 divided by 24 hours in a day = 475 houses sell per hour
- 475 divided by 60 minutes in an hour = about 8 houses sell each minute
So, on average, about 11,000 homes sell each day in this country.
How Many Homes Will Sell in Southwest Florida?
Instead of predicting how many will sell this year, we're using past sales data to provide an average. The average number of residential properties sold per year in Lee County (using MLS data from 2018-2022) is roughly 31,000. This includes single-family homes, condos/townhomes, and vacant lots for all of Lee County. Using that number...
- 31,000 properties divided by 365 days in a year = ~85 properties sell each day
- 85 divided by 24 hours in a day = ~3.5 properties sell per hour
So, on average, about 85 properties sell each day in Lee County. That's no small number!
